OTHER COMMENTS/INFO:

Beddy-Bye Eyes (BBE)

Release Info:

  • In the US, there was a release of Baby Heart Throb - as a BBE (Beddy Bye Eye Pony) - baby ponies who's eyes have a mechanical feature making them close, so it looks like they are going to sleep when you lie them down

    • BBE Ponies were introduced in Year 3, when second editions of the Baby Buggy and Lullabye Nursery included BBE Ponies

    • The first full set of BBE ponies was in Year 4 (1985-1986), and included Baby Heart Throb along with Baby Gusty, Baby Lickety Split, Baby Lofty, Baby Ribbon, and Baby Shady

Accessories:

  • The BBE ponies were packaged in the same style as the first wave Baby Ponies (except with different box art, accessories, and the added title "with Beddy-Bye Eyes), so of course they had lots of accessories included!

  • Her accessories were a diaper & diaper box, a playpen, a spoon, a food dish, a bottle, a necklace for her to wear, a blanket, a white ribbon, and a turquoise comb.

  • See accessory list with pictures for each item on MLW

Non Beddy-Bye Eyes (NBBE)

Release Info:

  • Instead of getting BBE ponies, the UK and other areas of Europe got a second wave of the Baby Ponies: Play and Care Sets, which were an equivalent to the initial wave of Baby Pony box sets released in the USA

    • There were 6 Baby Ponies released in Year 3 in Baby Pony box sets in the US. Two of these (Baby Cotton Candy and Baby Blossom) were released in the UK, France, and possibly other countries, in similar looking box sets under the name "Baby Pony: Play and Care". They also got Baby Applejack, who never got a US release.

    • For the second wave of Baby Pony: Play and Care Sets, Baby Heart Throb was released along with Baby Lickety Split, Baby Gusty, and Baby Ribbons

    • NBBE versions of Baby Ribbons and Baby Gusty were also released in Brazil in Play and Care style box sets, but it does not appear that Baby Heart Throb got one of these releases.

    • Multiple areas of Europe did not get full "Play and Care" sets (which were packaged the same as the extravagant box sets of the first wave of Baby Ponies in the USA) until the second wave of Play and Care, such as Germany, which previous had ponies with just one to three accessories on cards, not in boxes.

  • The NBBE Play and Care ponies were released in 1986, a year after the original BBE ponies. This makes sense, seeing as the first wave of Play and Care came out in 1985, instead of 1984 like their US counterparts.

Other Info:

  • The Baby Heart Throb toys sold in the UK specifically do not have the wings around the hearts on her cutie mark that adult Heart Throb does

    • In my experience the UK version is easier to find photos of

  • NBBE Baby Heart Throb has a different shade of blue for her eyes than both BBE Baby Heart Throb and the Standard Release adult Heart Throb

    • The version of her sold in Spain also has a slightly different eye color

Media:

  • Baby Heart Throb is featured in the G1 MLP TV Show

Personality: Baby Heart Throb is depicted as sweet, friendly and good-natured. She likes to help others, and can be a bit excitable.

Her US Backcard reads: “Wake up Baby Heart Throb,” mama Heart Throb called. “We have to get an early start if we want to deliver all the valentines before anyone sees us.” “Is it Valentine’s Day already?” Baby Heart Throb asked sleepily. They had worked hard all week to make heart-shaped bows for all the ponies. Off they went, flying through the early morning breeze, dropping the gifts as they flew. Suddenly, Baby Heart Throb realized she forgot to bring the special bow she had made for her friend, Mr. Sun. She loved the bright, warm sunshine he beamed while she played. With a twist and a flap, she flew back as fast as her baby pegasus wings would carry her. “Thank you, Baby Heart Throb,” Mr. Sun said as she tied the bow around him “And I have a Valentine’s surprise for you, too! Mr. Sun quickly changed his round shape into a heart and smiled heart-shaped rays just for that day.

Her UK Backcard reads: Baby Heart Throb makes wonderful cards for all the ponies on their birthdays and for Valentines Day. She wakes up very early, delivering the cards as she flies past on the morning breeze.

  • The accessory colors differed a bit between countries

    • Most notably, Spanish Baby Heart Throb has a baby bottle with bright blue trim that matches her distinct eye color
