OTHER COMMENTS/INFO:

  • The baby version of Cotton Candy

Release Info:

  • She was part of the first Baby Pony series, from late 1984 (early Year 3)

    • These were sold under the name Baby Pony Play And Care Set, or just Baby Pony

    • The USA introduced 6 ponies for their initial wave - Baby Cotton Candy, Baby Blossom, Baby Firefly, Baby Moondancer, Baby Glory, and Baby Surprise.

    • All of these ponies were baby versions of ponies who had already been released - with two earth ponies from the Year 1 original pony set, two ponies from the Year 2 Unicorn series, and two pegasi - Both from the Pegasus series, one from Year 2 (Firefly) and one from Year 3 (Surprise)

    • The ponies from the Baby Pony (or Play & Care) sets in 1984 (including Baby Cotton Candy) were the first ever Baby Ponies to be released in-store (Baby Ember was released as a mail order pony previously)

  • Baby Cotton Candy was one of three Baby Ponies in the first wave of UK Baby Ponies

    • In the UK, Baby Ponies were introduced a year later than the US, in 1985. Instead of a full set of 6 ponies, the UK got just Baby Blossom and Baby Cotton Candy, along with Baby Applejack, who was never released in the US.

Accessories:

  • The Baby Pony Play And Care Sets included a large number of accessories. Each one included a necklace for the pony to wear, a diaper and diaper box, a teddy bear plush, a bottle, the classic ribbon, and three additional accessories that differed between ponies.

    • Baby Blossom's additional accessories were a crib, a blanket, and a duck pull toy

    • You can see a list of her accessories with photos on Toy Sisters or MLW

    • She had a light pink bow/ribbon

  • Some parts of Europe got all 6 ponies, but these ponies were not packaged the same - They were given different boxes with less accessories, different from the extravagant boxes used for Baby Ponies in the USA and UK

Additional Info:

  • She has multiple Nirvana variants

  • Baby Cotton Candy is featured in the second G1 MLP TV Special

  • She has a more pastel color scheme than Cotton Candy

  • She has freckles! Although grown-up Cotton Candy does not

Character: Baby Cotton Candy doesn't really have an established personality other than eating a lot of flowers. This is very similar to her mother, who's main personality trait does also seem to be eating a lot of flowers.

Her US Backcard writes: Baby Cotton Candy was playing in her playpen when she spotted a big bouquet of flowers near the waterfall. She remembered Blossom giving them to her mother that morning. "Ummm, those flowers look delicious! They would make a yummy treat." She jumped out of her playpen, scooped up the flowers and scurried off behind the waterfall to munch on her sweet snack.

"Where are my beautiful flowers?" a voice echoed. It was Mother Cotton Candy looking for the bouquet!

Baby Cotton Candy ran off to find Blossom and explain what she had done. "You're as mischievous as your mother," Blossom laughed. "Because you told me the truth, I will give you another bouquet for your mother." Blossom picked more flowers for Mother Cotton Candy and handed Baby Cotton Candy a special bouquet just for nibbling.

Her UK Backcard writes: Baby Cotton Candy likes to play hide and seek with her pony friends and sometimes when she is hiding in the nursery the sound of lullaby music sends her to sleep.

Her German Backcard writes: Baby-Karamell spielt gerne Verstecken mit ihren Pony-Freunden.

-- Translation: Baby Caramel likes to play hide and seek with her pony friends. One day she hid in the Lulabye nursery, and a song lulled her to sleep. "Boo!" cried Admirable, causing Baby Caramel to wake up with a start, "You can't sleep now... we're not done with our game!"

Her French Backcard writes: Bébé Rose aime jouer à cache-cache avec ses amis poneys et parfois, quand il joue dans sa nurserie, il s’endort doucement au son d’une berceause.

--Translation: Baby Rose likes to play hide and seek with her pony friends and sometimes, when she plays in her nursery, she falls asleep gently to the sound of a cradle.

Outside of the USA:

  • The UK got ponies in boxes similar to the US, but with the added subtitle "Play and Care Set", and with a different image on the back of the box

    • France got the same style of packaging as the UK and US

  • Another style of packaging, without the full accessories is attributed to Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden, Holland, and possibly other Continental European countries. These countries are believed to have gotten the full set of all six ponies, unlike the UK.

    • In most cases the back cards were blue and included one accessory, a baby bottle, but Germany got an additional, pink and yellow version that also included a ribbon and blankets. Germany had both styles of card, not just the latter one. It appears that Baby Cotton Candy got the Germany-unique packing style, while Baby Blossom, Glory, and Surprise got the blue one. Unsure about Firefly.

  • Spain got all six ponies, but must have had different packaging, because they came with different accessories than the others, according to this database. Spain also appears to have produced the wave 1 Baby Ponies sold there in the country, seeing as Baby Moondancer has a Spanish Nirvana, but I've yet to find pictures of one for Baby Blossom.

  • In Germany, her name is Baby-Karamell

  • In France, her name is Bébé Rose

Pearlized Baby Cotton Candy:

  • In Year 7 (1988-1898), Mail Order Ponies included pearlized versions of each of the Baby Ponies from the first wave in 1984.

  • The Pearlized Baby Ponies could be bought individually or as a set. They each came with a ribbon. Baby Cotton Candy's ribbon was lavender

  • The Pearlized Baby Ponies were mostly made in China, but people have found ones marked with Hong Kong

    • There are slight differences in the ponies depending on where they were made. Typically the Hong Kong versions are a bit bigger. Some ponies had color pallete differences, but Baby Blossom does not seem to have that

    • It's worth noting that it seemed there were sometimes size differences in the ponies even if they were from the same place; The size differences aren't totally consistent with region, there's just been multiple cases where a differences has been noted
