OTHER COMMENTS/INFO:

Release Info:

  • She was part of the first Baby Pony series, from 1984

    • These were sold under the name Baby Pony Play And Care Set, or just Baby Pony

    • The USA introduced 6 ponies for their initial wave - Baby Blossom, Baby Cotton Candy, Baby Firefly, Baby Moondancer, Baby Glory, and Baby Surprise.

    • All of these ponies were baby versions of ponies who had already been released - with two earth ponies from the Year 1 original pony set, two ponies from the Year 2 Unicorn series, and two pegasi - Both from the Pegasus series, one from Year 2 (Firefly) and one from Year 3 (Surprise)

  • Baby Blossom was one of three Baby Ponies in the first wave of UK Baby Ponies

    • In the UK, Baby Ponies were introduced a year later than the US, in 1985. Instead of a full set of 6 ponies, the UK got just Baby Blossom and Baby Cotton Candy, along with Baby Applejack, who was never released in the US.

Accessories:

  • The Baby Pony Play And Care Sets included a large number of accessories. Each one included a necklace for the pony to wear, a diaper and diaper box, a teddy bear plush, a bottle, the classic ribbon, and three additional accessories that differed between ponies.

    • Baby Blossom's additional accessories were a rocker, a bib, and a rattle

    • You can see a list of her accessories with photos on Toy Sisters or MLW

  • Some parts of Europe got all 6 ponies, but these ponies were not packaged the same - They were given different boxes with less accessories, different from the extravagant boxes used for Baby Ponies in the USA and UK

Additional Info:

  • Her hair is white, instead of purple like the adult Blossom doll

  • She has freckles, which the adult Blossom does not

  • She often appears to be more pink-toned than purple in photos, but I'm unsure if she actually is pinker, because photographed next to Blossom they don't look much different

Character: Baby Blossom is a friendly and sweet pony, who's favorite thing in the world is flowers. She appeared in the UK comics series, but not in any other MLP media.

Her US Backcard writes: Baby Blossom loves to admire the flowers in her garden. "Purple violets, pink petunias, red geraniums, and yellow daffodils - my garden has every color of the rainbow in it!" thought Baby Blossom to herself. Spying a beautiful orange flower with black stripes, Baby Blossom exclaimed, I'll surprise my mother with a whole bouquet of these unique flowers!" When she reached down to pick the flower, it flew into the air and hovered in the wind. "Silly baby pony," it giggled. "I'm not a flower ... I'm a monarch butterfly!" Seeing Baby Blossom's disappointment, the butterfly quickly added, "But my friends and I will be glad to help you with your surprise!" Then many, many butterflies flew down to Baby Blossom's garden and sat together quietly. Baby Blossom was thrilled to show her mother the "butterfly bouquet" in the garden.

Her UK Backcard writes: Baby Blossom is a very kind pony and often lets her friends take turns to ride on her rocker while she sings her nursery pony rhymes.

Her French Backcard writes: Bébé Lilas est un petit poney très souvent ses petits amis jouer sur son fauteuil à bascule pendant qu’il leur chante une berceuse.

-- Translation: Baby Lilac is a little pony who often has her little friends playing on her rocking chair while she sings them a lullaby.

French Release:

  • It appears France got the same packaging style as the US and UK. It is unclear if they got all six ponies, but the implication seems to be that the European countries that got all six had the alternate packing style, so France most likely didn't get the full set.

  • There seems to be two types of French packaging, one closer to the original US packaging. Unsure what the reason for the two types is

  • Her French name is Bébé Lilas

Alternate Packaging Style:

  • This style of packaging is attributed to Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Sweden, Holland, and possibly other Continental European countries. These countries are believed to have gotten the full set of all six ponies, unlike the UK.

    • In most cases the back cards were blue and included one accessory, a baby bottle, but Germany got an additional, pink and yellow version that also included a ribbon and blankets. Germany had both styles of card, not just the latter one. It appears that Baby Cotton Candy got the Germany-unique packing style, while Baby Blossom, Glory, and Surprise got the blue one. Unsure about Firefly.

  • Spain got all six ponies, but must have had different packaging, because they came with different accessories than the others, according to this database. Spain also appears to have produced the wave 1 Baby Ponies sold there in the country, seeing as Baby Moondancer has a Spanish Nirvana, but I've yet to find pictures of one for Baby Blossom.

  • Baby Blossom was packaged in a Play and Care Set box in Greece, as well as with the Baby Buggy. The iteration of Baby Blossom sold in Greece is a Nirvana though.

Pearlized Baby Blossom:

  • In Year 7 (1988-1898), Mail Order Ponies included pearlized versions of each of the Baby Ponies from the first wave in 1984.

  • The Pearlized Baby Ponies could be bought individually or as a set. They each came with a ribbon

  • The Pearlized Baby Ponies were mostly made in China, but people have found ones marked with Hong Kong

    • There are slight differences in the ponies depending on where they were made. Typically the Hong Kong versions are a bit bigger. Some ponies had color pallete differences, but Baby Blossom does not seem to have that

    • It's worth noting that it seemed there were sometimes size differences in the ponies even if they were from the same place; The size differences aren't totally consistent with region, there's just been multiple cases where a differences has been noted
