CHARACTER(S): Baby Cuddles <- I was convinced for so long that she was Baby Bow Tie, and I am very disappointed - The reason for this confusion (besides Baby Cuddles looking like Baby Bow Tie appears to be the existence of a UK exclusive Baby Stroller play set different from this one, which actually does feature Baby Bow Tie!

YEAR OF PRODUCTION: 1984, 1985, 1986 - Came out in 1986 in some Euro countries

PLACE OF PRODUCTION: Hong Kong

MANUFACTURING COMPANY: Hasbro & Milton Bradley

TYPICAL PRICE ONLINE: $30 - $40 USD, with Cuddles included - $20 range without

OTHER COMMENTS/INFO:

  • The Baby Buggy was released in Year 3 (1984-1985), then again in Year 4 (1985-1986)

    • The original release included Baby Cuddles, the Year 4 re-release had Baby Cuddles again, but this time with Beddy-Bye Eyes

  • An alternate, re-named and re-colored version was released in Year 8 (1989-1990), called the Baby Princess Buggy, which came with Baby Princess Sparkle

  • The Baby Buggy set got many continuous releases, in the same vein as the Pretty Parlor. Both the BBE and NBEE versions were sold well into 1988 at least

Other Info

  • Sort of a play set, sort of not - It's not a building, but it's not an accessory? I'd consider it a play set, at least honorarily

  • Accessories were:

    • A pink bonnet

    • A blanket and pillow with pink fabric with rosebuds on it

    • A rattle, a baby bottle, and a diaper

    • Lace elastic trim for the canopy and basket

    • A pink heart for the top of the canopy + a purple ribbon for around it

    • 2 pink tail ribbons for Baby Cuddles

  • Accessory list with photos on MLP Accessories or My Little Wiki

  • Was available both in-stores and as a mail offer prize

  • Lickety Split and Posey both feature on the standard box design, but are not included

The insert slip with the play set reads: On the day that baby Cuddles was born, all of the ponies got together to give her a birthday gift. They gathered lace from the lining of silver clouds and wicker from the magical flowering reeds and bushes near the waterfall.

"Let's weave the wicker together and make a baby buggy for her!" one of the ponies suggested. They tied it all together with pink ribbons and bows. One of the unicorns sprinkled star dust in the lace and even the rainbow got involved by adding a touch of color! The baby ponies filled it with gifts. Baby Blossom gave Cuddles a baby bottle and Baby Cotton Candy made a lace pillow. "She's going to need a brush for her soft, silky hair," said Baby Moondancer, adding it to the growing pile of gifts.

Little baby Cuddles loved her buggy! "Please take me for a ride!" Cuddles cooed in baby pony talk. So the older ponies took turns nosing the Baby Buggy all the way to the Lullabye Nursery and back again!

Merch & Media:

  • There are four puzzles with the Baby Buggy in them:

  • A 35 piece puzzle with Baby Lemon Drop and Sweet Stuff

  • A 60 piece puzzle with TAF ponies, Cuddles, and Newborn Twins

  • A board puzzle with Baby Cuddles and Bow Tie

  • It appears briefly in the book My Little Pony: Learns to Count

  • It appears in the MLP TV Show episode "The Revolt of Paradise Estate", where it is actually relevant to the story and everything!

USA (Standard Edition)

In the UK:

  • The UK got the BBE edition of the Baby Buggy, despite getting very few BBE ponies, even having alternated non BBE versions of BBE ponies that the US never did.

  • It appears the UK may have actually gotten the BBE Buggy before the NBBE one

In Canada:

  • eBay - Deveney Collectables

In Finland

ree
  • In Finland, and possibly other countries in Europe, the Baby Buggy was sold with not just Baby Cuddles, but also Lemon Drop - A sticker on the box says "Lemon Drop Included!"

  • Possibly linked to Baby Lemon Drop being sold in the UK with another baby stroller set, a second edition version of the UK set with Baby Bow Tie.

    • Baby Lemon Drop was never sold in the US. She was confirmed sold in the UK and Germany. Unsure about Finland. It is unclear if the UK and Germany Baby Buggy sets also had bonus Baby Lemon Drop

    • The UK Baby Lemon Drop stroller set came out in Year 4, same as the BBE Buggy

In Italy (Pony Car)

  • Features Skydancer on the box

In Germany:

In Greece

  • Multiple variations were sold in Greece - One with light purple wheels, one with bright-toned medium purple wheels, and one with blue wheels and a blue parasol

  • In Greece, the Baby Buggy was sold with Baby Blue Belle or Baby Blossom (depending on release) instead of Cuddles

    • There was never a baby Blue Belle released in the USA - She was exclusive to Greece, Argentina, and Columbia

    • It appears the blue version is the one sold with Baby Blossom, and the others with Baby Blue Belle

Image sources:

In Brazil (Carrinho do Baby Pônei)

  • The set sold in Brazil was produced by Estrella in Brazil, sold with a Brazil-made Baby Cuddles (her Brazilian name is Baby Chocolho)

  • The pink accents on the buggy and pink accessories are more neon than in the US release, and the purple wheels are a darker shade of purple

  • It seems that it has Firefly on the box, but it's hard to tell

In Argentina (Cochecito)

  • Like most G1 MLP stuff sold in Argentina, it was made and distributed by Top Toys
