Twilight Sparkle Bath Figure - Play Together / Plush Apple

OTHER COMMENTS/INFO:

  • A niche and barely documented (at least in America) set of merchandise, these figurines have a confusing situation of doubles - Figures branded as 'Play Together' and the figures branded as 'Plush Apple' appear to be near-identical.

    • Both companies are Russian (with virtually no info about them online that I can find) and both sets are sold in packaging either entirely or mostly in Russian (sometimes with a bit of English).

    • When you try and dig into Russian sources about them, there's some overlap and confusion in which company name goes with which set of figures.

  • MLP Merch is the only English site so far (until now) to actively document (EQD mentioned them briefly) either set of figures.

    • MLP Merch asserts that they are for-sure not the same, based on difference in packaging, brand name, and minor details such as the eyes.

    • I think it's possible that the two sets of figures are made by the same manufacturer, just at different times and with slight differences. I think the manufacture may have changed their name, or both companies are subsidies of some larger company that re-used the molds. It really does appear to me as if the figures use the same molds.


The Mystery: Who is Who?

  • Online listings (Ozon, dmtoy, domigrushek, irecommend, market, market, market) show the Play Together (or at least, ones labeled as such) ponies packaged in similar (albeit sturdier looking) plastic webbing.

    • It's worth noting that in multiple cases the tag attached has the purple MLP logo, which means the toy must have been sold post-2016.

    • The pictures of Plush Apple figures have the pink logo, which indicates them being pre-2016. More importantly, the ones from directly above use the "Rainbow Power" logo (despite not actually incorporating the gimmick), which was primarily used for MLP toys circa 2013. The MLP Merch article announcing them is from 2014, and they are listed as being from 2014 on the main site.

  • The two-figure box-packages of previously assigned to Play Together by MLP Merch use the pink logo, though, and the Play Together figures are labeled on the site as being from 2015.

    • Another site, Ravta, shows Play Together figures in this sort of packaging, but with the pink logo

  • The list of Play Together figures on MLP Merch includes Applejack and Pinkie Pie (paired together in packaging), Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy (paired), Twilight Sparkle (paired with Pinkie Pie again), and Celestia (no packaging shown)

  • The list of Plush Apple figures on the site includes Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Celestia (with a different mold from the Play Together version), Cadence, Shining Armor, Scootaloo, Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom, and Spike.

  • This site describes the CMC figures as 'bath toys'

  • This site and this site show toys that match the "Play Together" designs and are labelled as Играем вместе in single-figure box packaging, like what was previously attributed to Plush Apple.

    • The site toys-land-ru shows what appear to be Plush Apple Ponies (based on the Celestia and AJ designs) in box packaging with a unique design, different from the previous packaging. It includes the 'Rainbow Power' logo.

  • Multiple listings (Ozon, Ozon) use the name Играем вместе, but feature characters who were said to be Plush Apple only, such as Cadence and Shining Armor + have Celestia with the Plush Apple design.

  • Some sites (dmtoy, babybrick) depict the Play Together figures in plastic bag packaging, but with two figures per bag. These pair up Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, Twilight and Pinkie Pie, and Applejack and Celestia

  • For Twilight, the eyes appear to possibly be smaller and maybe a bit less rounded for the Play Together figure, at least based on the pictures assigned to them on MLP Merch. (shown below)


Conclusion:

The figures are probably made by the same brand, just with a changing name and slightly different style between "waves". For practical reasons the figures will be separated by the names "Plush Apple" and "Play Together", using the depictions featured on MLP Merch about which is which. But I do believe they are the same company, and these are just two different waves/versions of what are functionally the same figures.



General Info:

  • Both figures are made of soft vinyl. The Play Together toys are specifically said to be PVC in product descriptions.

  • The Play Together figures are listed as bath figures on MLP Merch

    • Product descriptions for Play Together ponies (including those that appear to match the Plush Apple desc on MLP Merch) are frequently advertised as bath toys

  • Product descriptions also specify that the figures squeak when squished, and float in the water

  • The single box packages are typically listed to be around 20 x 14 x 7 cm

  • Both sets of figures appear to be Russian exclusive

  • Plush Apple also appears to have sold MLP-themed scooters with the figures mounted on top. They made ones for Twilight, Pinkie, AJ, and Dash. Unsure about other characters.
