CHARACTER(S): Zecora

YEAR OF PRODUCTION: 2012

PLACE OF PRODUCTION: China

MANUFACTURING COMPANY: Hasbro

TYPICAL PRICE ONLINE: Sold listings are usually in the $25-$35 range, but she is often listed for higher. Collectors don't typically consider her to be "worth" these high prices, though, with $45 being her highest possible value estimate.

  • Essentially, asking price is often $40-$70, but she does not usually sell for any higher than $45 and is far from impossible to find for cheap (as in, under $25)

  • Original price was $10 USD - But it was raised twice

OTHER COMMENTS/INFO:

Release Info

  • Zecora is from the G4 Collectors Series. She was first sold at SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) 2012, before then being sold as a Toys R Us exclusive

  • It appears that she may have been a US-only release, but this isn't expressly confirmed

    • She was advertised at the con as "rolling out nationwide" after the fact, with no indication of an international release, so I suspect this to be the case

    • I've also seen vague mention of her being US-only online from collectors, but nothing concrete

  • While she isn't as popular nowadays, upon launch Zecora was a highly desired piece of MLP merchandise. She sold extremely well, with her repeatedly going out of stock in-store, and her price being raised twice.

    • This may be part of why there's a disparity in her most common listing prices (often in the $40 to $70 range) and her actual selling prices (typically $25-40)

    • She was available online on the Toys R Us website and ToyWiz, though by 2013 she was no longer selling online. Equestria Daily also notes that she was rarely in-stock online.

General Info

  • Glows in the dark - made of glow-in-the-dark plastic. This gives her a translucent look when not in the dark, which some people do not like (personally, I like it)

    • It has been said that her head glows a dimmer shade than her body

  • The packaging has a more blue and purple tone, and is very display-friendly. She is an example of a MLP toy that was clearly marketed with collectors in mind

  • Her mow-hawk and pre-braided tail make for a very unique look, a nice translation of her show design into the toy style.

  • In a similar vein to DJ Pon3, Zecora's unique eye shape is stamped onto a mold that has another pony's eye shape on it, cheapening the look. It is far less noticeable with Zecora than with DJ, probably in part due to the transparent-toned plastic.

  • As is often an issue with ponies with painted features, Zecora's bracelets only wrap partway around her leg, which is pretty annoying for such an otherwise high-quality figure. Her necklace situation seems to be alright though.

    • It appears that her stripes also have this issue, unfortunately

  • This is the only brushable release of Zecora

Zecora is a supporting character in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, introduced in the first season. She is not a pony, but instead a zebra. She is the only non-pony character in FiM who has a cutie mark. She is not featured in a lot of merchandise.

Comments

This website is purely for educational/archival purposes. I do not own the rights to My Little Pony, and most photos on this site are not my own. I provide image sources if the source is still available online, but there are far too many photos for me to ask each person for permission - The whole point of the site is collecting as many photos as possible. I try to ask permission on social media or forums that I'm active on, especially if I'm using a lot of photos from one person. If you own one of the photos on this site and do not want it here, message me and I will remove it. This isn't meant to take credit from or upset anyone; It is just for fun and to help record the existence of these toys. If you are made uncomfortable by me using your photos, I will remove them for you.
